		<description>scottie, scottie...  someone needs more time behind a console and less time in Windows.  here&#039;s a similar command that would &lt;EM&gt;actually&lt;/EM&gt; back stuff up: dd if=/dev/sda of=/home/colin/MBR_BACKUP.bin bs=512 count=1.  The two commands in my post were responsible for zeroing the first 512 bytes of each of my hard drives, which had the side effect of obliterating my master boot record and both drives&#039; partition tables.  Thus ended the era of Crux, my SuSE/Gentoo box since last March.  I&#039;ve now got Windows XP up and running, though I haven&#039;t gotten around to installing apps and restoring my data backups just yet.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Not that backing up my mac is a bad idea... I really should do that as well.</description>
