LiveTrip
Welcome to LiveTrip!
On the map below, you can track the status of Colin & Jeni as they travel out to Santa Clara, CA. Each blue pushpin indicates a stop along our journey. Clicking on a pin will show you the time we reached that location (or in some cases, a time somewhat later, due to lack of cellular coverage at the actual location). You can zoom in on the map using the icons provided, double click to recenter the map on a point, or move around by grabbing the map and dragging it.
Check it out!

About the website
This website is currently in the status of a bit of a hack, but I think it’s a neat technology demonstration, which I plan to expand into a more elaborate geotagging plugin for WordPress this summer, depending on what’s already out there. All I can say for sure is, I haven’t seen it done like this before, but I think it’s pretty cool.
Some historical updates
Update 5/26/2007: IT WORKS!!! Really need to go to bed, but I got a ridiculously rough hack working! Check back throughout the next two days to get periodic updates on where we’re at on our trip. I send them by texting the city name & state to my blog, and the new software I wrote automatically adds pushpins for your viewing pleasure :)
Update 5/25/2007: I’ve gotten a PERL script working that fetches a list of city names (e.g. “Green Bay, WI”) from a file, pings Google for the latitude and longitude, and outputs a GeoRSS feed with those cities, tagged with their coordinates. The Google map below then grabs that GeoRSS feed and plots it. All that’s left to do for this hacked-up version is add the ability to add onto that list from my phone… maybe tonight, maybe not :)
Original Introduction:
Well, this will possibly (by the end of my trip to California) be a page where you can track my current progress across the globe. Absolutely no promises though… lets see what we can get in a couple nights’ coding at random hotels :)

someone needs to get LiveTrip working again
